Happy with the blinds, app- not so much.

Pros: Love the blinds. Install was straightforward. Sizing was good. Remote works as it should. Home Assistant support.

Durability- time will tell, hopefully parts will be available if and when the time comes.

Cons: I tried to use the app scheduler to open and close the blinds but upon closing, it will not automatically rotate the blades close which kinda defeats the purpose. There was no option to rotate blades close using the scheduler, at least not that I could figure out to the point I gave up on trying to make it work. This was not a big deal since I got around this issue using Alexa app instead. I scheduled it on Alexa app to close then "rotate blinds" to 0% or 100% about 20 secs later.

Overall I'm happy with the product. I will buy again if the need arise and would recommend. 5 star if the native app would rotate the blinds close automatically, until then 4 stars.

Worth the time

The package arrived professionally wrapped- no damage to anything.
arrived within a week..not hard installing.
I’m having some issues with it working with Alexa, but we are working the bugs out. very nice product.
( so far)
I’ve got it to open and close, but can’t get the blinds to rotate, I’m working on that but it’s working fine as you can see.
I found the blinds do not stay at 50 to close thus will cause damage to the plastic track holders. You have to use the remote to open the blinds to 50 percent then can tell Alexa to close or open?
Very up set. After many emails we were able to set the blinds to rotate. Everything works.

overall nice shade but with some minor issues

Overall nice product and nice shade but with some issues. There are very few consumer options for fully automated AC powered motors that integrate with Alexa over wifi. If you have nearby AC power, this is a huge upgrade over battery powered shades.

Main complaint-- Valence fascia shows wrinkles from the factory. Installing the fascia is difficult since fabric is bonded to a plastic backer with adhesive at the edges that prevents sliding into the track or adjustment. The plastic backer telegraphs wrinkles and waves no matter how much effort you spend flattening it into the track. This is particularly visible at night under room lighting. If you experience this problem, the solution is to strip the fabric from the rigid backing tape and then adhere it directly to the valence track using 3M Super 77 Spray adhesive (special glue that won't wet or alter fabric color).

Major installation consideration-- If you have a large fixture that is center opening, expect the rod to arrive in two pieces. I highly recommend hanging the halves separately and joining them at the center only after both halves are clipped into the wall brackets. The center attachment is plastic and any bending or flex while jostling into place will surely damage it and the gears it protects. Also, don't forget the small metal drive shaft insert when securing the two halves.

Color/texture tips-- The waffle pattern is probably closest in texture to a traditional old school cloth vertical. I recommend you order the sample pack and blue tape samples to your glass so you can see what they look like backlit. I found the beige in the sample pack to be unexpectedly yellow when backlit. We opted for weighted bottoms which are performing without movement in close proximity to floor vents with a 1" gap to the floor.

Sizing considerations-- When ordering, they tell you that the total stack is 1/6 the total width, with half on each side if it is center opening. On my large fixture (183" wide), the actual stack exceeded 1/6 by 6". I should have added 1/6 + 6" to my total width. If width is mission critical to avoid obstructing your views, confirm suggested width + stack with customer service.

If you order outside mount, the height you specify is bang on what is shipped. Brackets clamp over top of fixture with the top of bracket approx 1/4" above fixture height when planning bracket mount location. Bracket mounting holes are awkwardly placed near the corner and inside the reinforced web. Access to fasteners is challenging. I normally like to use hex head sheet metal screws as they do not strip out but there is not enough space with these brackets. I would recommend using a good stud finder and mounting these brackets into studs instead of the included sheet rock anchors that are prone to pull-out. When mounting, you must press the backside of the rod into a spring loaded plastic clip and then rotate the front up into the cleat. This force alone could tear out weak drywall anchors. Installation will require a minimum of two people.

Packaging-- The vanes themselves are rolled up and were perfectly straight after installation with the weighted ends. They came with weights and chains already attached. They still need to be manually clipped into the fixture. With a large fixture, it is helpful to have a helper hold the cluster of vanes up off the floor to reduce the weight while the installer clips each vane one at a time. They included two spares that were not secured with the beads at the bottom. Do not accidentally clip in one of the spares or you will make a lot of extra work for yourself.

Operation-- the blind is not as smart as I'd have hoped but there are some work-arounds. In the Gray Wind app, rotation is assigned a value 0-100 with 50 being perpendicular at 90 degrees to the glass and 0 or 100 flat (parallel) to the glass. The fixture motor does not automatically return to what should be the default vane rotation of 50 (perpendicular to glass) before opening or closing. Whether using the remote or the app, the blind will stupidly close or open in whatever rotation the vanes were left in. This potentially can bind up the plastic gears and permanently damage the blind if it is opened or closed with the vanes rotated fully flat (0 or 100). I would have expected a smart vertical to automatically return rotation to 50 before safely shifting the motor to open or close.

The remote has arrows for open, arrows for close, an arrow to rotate clockwise, and arrow to rotate counter clockwise, and pause buttons. Since it does not return to 50 by default, you must hit the correct rotation arrow and then manually hit pause when it looks about perpendicular to the glass. Expect to fumble with these buttons. Then you can hit the desired close or open button. The simple act of opening or closing the fixture will take a minimum of 3 button presses on the remote.

Automation-- For automation, you need to install the Gray Wind app on your phone. The app walks you t...
